Cinderella at KLPac (December to January)

CINDERELLA
A ROCKIN’ CHRISTMAS PANTO FOR CHILDREN OF ALL AGES

Cinderella is a poor girl. Her best friend Buttons is secretly in love with her. Cinderella’s father, The Datuk, returns from a stretch in prison with a new wife. The new and very wicked stepmother has two horrid daughters. They condemn Cinderella to the kitchen and the life of a servant. Two debt collectors come to repossess the Datuk’s furniture and the sisters chase them away. A ball is announced at the palace and Cinderella is kept from going by the evil trio. But Cinderella’s fairy godmother turns up and magically supplies Cinderella with a beautiful gown and a carriage to get her to the ball. But there is a catch. The dress and the carriage will vanish at midnight.

The whole family and the debt collectors turn up at the palace and trick there way inside. Then Cinderella arrives unrecognized by the family. The Prince and Cinderella meet, dance and fall in love. Cinderella forgets about the ‘midnight’ rule and as the clock strikes midnight she runs as her clothes return to poor rags. But she leaves behind a slipper. As the family make their way back to the house from the palace they are set upon in a haunted forest. The Prince and his best friend Dandini scour the land for the girl whose foot will fit the slipper. When they get to Cinderella’s house the Stepmother and stepsisters lock Cinderella away and deny any knowledge of another girl in the house. But selflessly Buttons frees Cinderella who tries the slipper which, of course, fits perfectly. Cinderella marries the Prince, The stepsisters get the debt collectors and the stepmother opens a jewelry shop. And it all ends happily ever after.

There is a theme. And it’s ‘The King’ Let’s face it what other rocker made the journey from rags to riches, from trucker to ‘The King’? Elvis’ story was a Cinderella story if there ever was one.
