Contemporary Japanese Theatre
Dramatic Reading Series (Project 1)
The Japan Foundation is proud to launch an exciting new series of projects entitled “Translation in Action: Contemporary Japanese Theatre in Dramatic Readings”. This series of rehearsed readings aims to introduce Japanese contemporary drama to Malaysian theatre practitioners and general public.
Its Project #1 is entitled ‘Epitaph for the Whales’, written by renowned theatre director and writer SAKATE Yoji. This rehearsed reading will be directed by local theatre practitioner and journalist Lim How Ngean. With a cast of 13 characters, ‘Epitaph’ will feature some of KL’s most established stage actors and more, including Anne James, Ida Mariana, Bernie Chan, Benjy, MIX FM personality Aanont Wathanasin, Pang Khee Teik, Ben Tan, Lennard Gui and Terence Swampillai. The reading will be in English, based on an English translation of Mr. Sakate&rsq uo;s play.

Visiting Research Scholar (Team Research Organizer) 2008-2009
The International Research Center for Japanese Studies is one of the constituent institutions of the National Institutes for the Humanities, which was established as an Inter-University Research Institute Corporation under a law effective April 2004. This center seeks to promote comprehensive, international and! interdisciplinary research on Japanese culture, and to foster cooperation among researchers in Japanese studies worldwide. In order to broaden and deepen research on Japanese culture, and bring together researchers in a variety of specialized fields, the Center has adopted the format of the “team research project” (Kyodo Kenkyu).
The Center is seeking a visiting research scholar to plan and organize a one-year team research project starting from the Japanese academic year 2008 (April) – 2009 (March), focusing on some imaginative and significant research theme.The deadline for applications is on 16 (Mon) January 2006
